Montezuma County Fair Junior Livestock Committee Scholarship Application

INFORMATION FOR MONTEZUMA COUNTY FAIR JUNIOR LIVESTOCK COMMITTEE SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE:  To recognize outstanding 4-H members who are attending an accredited college, university, or technical school. To support continuing education for post-secondary students within the 4-H Programs.  Qualified applicants will be awarded up to $2,000.00 scholarships each pending eligibility. The option of re- applying for members second (2) year of continuing education will be available as funds permit. This option would provide up to an additional $1,000.00 scholarship.

The number and amount of scholarships awarded in a given year will be based on the amount of scholarship funds made available as a result of the previous year’s Montezuma County Fair Junior Livestock Sale commission.

ELIGIBILITY:

  1. Student must provide proof of acceptance to an accredited college, university, or technical school as a full-time student.
  2. 2024 graduating high school member or GED graduates.
  3. Open to current 4-H/FFA members in Montezuma having sold a market animal and/or fowl for a minimum of five (5) years, at the Montezuma County Fair Junior Livestock Sale. If a recipient does not fulfill the five (5) year requirement, for whatever reason, he/she will forfeit the scholarship.

APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS:

  • All Application items may not apply to you, but complete as much information as possible.
  • Handwritten applications WILL NOT be accepted.
  • Incomplete applications MAY NOT be accepted.
  • Fill in the blanks where indicated and instructed. A brief answer is one or two sentences. A short answer is two or three paragraphs or less than 150 words.
  • SUBMITTAL DEADLINE IS APRIL 1.
  • All items except for test scores must be submitted by this date. Except as expressly permitted by the Montezuma County Fair Junior Livestock Committee, no additional information will be accepted after this date.

SELECTION:

  1. Applications will be reviewed by a non-biased review committee to determine eligibility of applicant.
  2. Final selections of first year applicants will be based on application and personal interview of qualified applicants by a panel of non-biased Montezuma County residents. Interviews times will be determined based upon applications received.
  3. Second year applicants are not required to attend personal interview. Personal story will take the place of this requirement.

ADMINISTRATION: 

  1. One half of scholarship will be awarded in late July/early August and the 2nd half in December.
  2. Following completion of first semester as a full-time student, the second half of scholarship will be awarded upon verification of a GPA of 2.5 or higher based on the 4.0 system.
  3. Scholarship payments will be made directly to an accredited college, university, or technical school of choice. Scholarship recipients must provide a correct mailing address to Onward! in order for the check to be mailed.
  4. If the student falls below a 2.5 grade average or does not maintain full time student status, he/she forfeits the second half of the scholarship award.

Application Deadline: April 1 every year

Applications not meeting the criteria and/or deadline will be screened out prior to panel review.

Decisions of the panel are final.

NOTIFICATION OF AWARD: Scholarship recipients will be notified by letter no later than May 1 every year.  Public announcement will be made prior to the Montezuma County Fair Junior Livestock Sale.
